Biography

Dr. Khalilah Ali received her Ph.D in Educational Studies with a focus on Literacy, Pedagogy, and Culture from Emory University, and her M.Ed. in Middle and Secondary Instruction and B.A. in English Literature and African Studies from Georgia State University.

Realizing that education can come from inside and outside the classroom, she is dedicated to ensuring that her students’ education comes in a multitude of forms. Her research is theoretically grounded in critical feminist and hip hop pedagogies. Dr. Ali's upcoming research focuses on Hip-Hop Based Education (HHBE), hidden curricula and educative nature of new media as it merges with elements of hip-hop culture.

Research Interests

Dr. Ali emphasizes abolitionist education, and accesses a womanist hip-hop framework to confront educational inequity and to prepare future teacher leaders.
